For any serious medical condition when surgery is a resulting possibility, those suffering from the condition attempt to do whatever possible in hopes of avoiding having to go through with the procedure. It's often been said that there's no such thing as a "minor" surgery because there are always major risks involved when surgery is performed. Individuals suffering from Crohn's disease are no exception. Because there is no cure, these people go through whatever forms of Crohns disease treatment they have available to them before having to seriously consider Crohn's surgery but there are many times when it is ultimately unavoidable.

Coming to that conclusion only takes a bad situation and makes it worse, particularly for those that have Crohn's disease and believe it to have been caused by their use of the medication Accutane. Released on the market in 1982, Accutane has been prescribed to millions of individuals since that time to treat their severe acne. Accutane provided relief for many who took it to treat their acne but research in the last several years has indicated that there are risks involved with the drug that were not made clear to these patients prior to taking the medication. Included in these risks is a higher chance of coming down with an inflammatory bowel disease, notably ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

So for an individual that has Crohn's disease because they took Accutane, the realization that their current condition was avoidable is very upsetting. As they face the possibility of Crohn's surgery to alleviate the symptoms they deal with on a daily basis, they wonder why they weren't given more accurate Accutane warnings from the makers of the drug, Roche Pharmaceuticals. The public in general has shown a great concern that such a medication could be available for so long without these risks being known and understand why these victims have decided to pursue an Accutane lawsuit.

The constant Crohns disease treatment that is required by these victims is costly and adding Crohn's surgery on top of that only adds to the medical expenses. A successful Accutane lawsuit can lead to compensation for these victims which can be used to help assist with the payment of these growing medical bills but it won't result in an end to their Crohn's disease. Only a cure will do that and as of yet, there isn't one available. Until then, these people will have to hope that Crohns surgery will make it easier for them to live a normal life despite their condition.
